Gifted Program

Gifted classes meet each morning from 8 to 11:20 am.  Students arrive between 7:30 and 7:45 each day and may eat breakfast in the cafeterias at our gifted locations.
  • We serve the Bowsher area gifted students at Beverly.
  • The largest Start area schools' gifted students are served at DeVilbiss.
  • The Rogers, Scott, Start (smaller schools), Waite, and Woodward gifted students are served at Jones Leadership Academy.
Gifted classes are available for gifted students in grades 5, 6, 7, and 8.

The Fourth Grade Enrichment classes happen in the afternoon from noon until 2 pm for students who have been identified as gifted.
The classes meet one day each week and are indicated on the list below:
  • Tuesday:  the fourth graders from the Rogers and Start learning communities are served
  •  Wednesday:  the fourth graders from the Scott and Waite learning communities are served
  • Thursday:  the fourth graders from the Bowsher and Woodward learning communities are served

Toledo Public Schools strives to provide an environment where all students can thrive and be challenged and supported. We currently support that goal through a variety of approaches:

  • Curriculum differentiation

  • Gifted sections of ELA and Math for 5th, 6th and 7th grades

  • Subject acceleration and EHSO

  • Whole grade acceleration following ODE guidelines and using the Iowa Acceleration Scale and approved assessments

  • College Credit Plus (CCP)

  • Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) classes

Children who are gifted and are receiving gifted services have a Written Education Plan (WEP) that provides goals for the student.

Children who are subject or whole grade accelerated have a Written Acceleration Plan (WAP) that provides a plan for the transition to the higher class or grade level.
